How To Track Hurricane Irene by iPhone Apps

According to reports, Hurricane Irene has spread in eastern North Carolina this afternoon. Although the hurricane has dropped to Category 1 storm, with top speeds around 85 mph, forecasters believe will remain a hurricane threatening.

So if you’re on the east coast, and finding applications for tracking of Hurricane Irene, then here is a list of applications.

Hurricane ($ 2.99) – This aptly named application called Hurricane developed by Kitty Cole is one of the most popular and top rated in the App Store for tracking hurricanes. The application allows you to track the hurricane, satellite images and interactive animated map prognosis and monitoring, and also offers an interactive cone 5 day forecast. FEMA digital tools:

In addition to tracking applications for Hurricane Irene,  FEMA   has released two new digital tools – a FEMA application for Android and text messaging service, providing information on how to prepare and recover from hurricanes. You can receive updates on your iPhone as follows:

  • Text PREPARE to 43362 (4FEMA) to sign up to receive monthly disaster safety tips
  • Text SHELTER + your ZIP code to 43362 (4FEMA) to find the nearest shelter in your area (example: shelter 12345) (For availability of shelters and services, contact your local emergency management agency.)
  • Text DRC + your ZIP code to 43362 (4FEMA) to find the nearest disaster recovery center in your area (for example, if you lived in Annandale, Virginia with a Zip Code of 22003, you’d text DRC 22003).
